Family desperately seeks help to find missing daughter in Ga-Rankuwa
Botshelo Mahlangu was last seen in 2023.
The family of 21-year-old Botshelo Mahlangu is pleading for public assistance in locating her after she disappeared in 2023.
Botshelo, who has been missing for over a year, was last seen in Ga-Rankuwa, and her family believes she may be in Zone 14.
Despite repeated efforts to find her, including police involvement, the young woman has yet to return home.
Her mother, Florah Mahlangu, who remains heartbroken and deeply worried, shared that she last heard from Botshelo when she asked her to send her R300 to return home, claiming she had been taken to an unknown location by an unidentified man.
She said her daughter communicated through text, saying that she was near an FNB ATM and could not make calls.
Concerned but hopeful, her mother sent R150, but shortly after receiving the money, Botshelo messaged that the people she was staying with had taken all of it.
“I became suspicious after that,” her mother said, recalling Botshelo had once disappeared, but returned the next day. “I thought she was in danger, but then I realised she might be under someone’s influence. She has short blond hair, and she used to be firm in build. She’s of average height with a coffee complexion.”
Florah said Botshelo also suffers from epilepsy, and she doesn’t think she has taken her medication since 2023.
“I fear for her health and safety every day.”
She said in the weeks following her disappearance, community members reported seeing her in Zone 14, but despite a desperate search, she has yet to be found.
“I’ve looked for her multiple times, but no one is willing to help. I even approached police, but nothing has come of it.”
Botshelo’s family is convinced that she may be involved with drugs and is under the influence of someone who is keeping her from returning home.
“What worries me the most is why she won’t come back? She knowns she has a family that loves her. We need the community to help us find her and bring back. She needs to be reunited with her family. We miss her, and we are worried about her health and safety. I am not coping at all, but by the grace of the Lord, I am trying to stay strong.”
Police had yet to confirm if they are investigating a missing person’s case.
