Three suspected car thieves arrested after high-speed chase
The car the suspects fled in was filled with car theft tools.
The Gauteng Department of Community Safety (DCS) announced that it arrested three suspects following a car chase for allegedly stealing a vehicle.
According to a post on the department’s social media page, the bust was in conjunction with Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (North Corridor), Tshenolo PI, Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) Airwing, Sunnyside SAPS, Pretoria Central LCRC, and security companies.
The arrest occurred on January 24 on the corner of Francis Baard and Festival streets in Hatfield.
According to the DSC, authorities were tipped off to a suspicious vehicle parked near the University of Pretoria, where students had gathered for registration.
“Upon arrival, officers parked behind the suspicious vehicle, but the driver attempted to flee, speeding off. A high-speed chase ensued, with officers stopping the vehicle and successfully apprehending the suspects,” the post read.
Three men from the vehicle were arrested after it was found to have been stolen and police recovered various tools for car theft including a signal jammer and false registration plates.
The suspects were arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and car-breaking equipment.
