The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Tactical Unit arrested a suspect in connection with the possession of an unlicensed firearm, as well as multiple other criminal activities.
The arrest was made after a tip-off was received regarding a suspect believed to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
According to TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintended Isaac Mahamba, the officers located the suspect in Winterveldt.
“Upon conducting a search, officers discovered a 9mm Makarov Russian pistol with its serial number deliberately filed off, along with two rounds of ammunition.
“The firearm was seized as evidence,” said Mahamba.
He said further investigations revealed that the suspect, who was already out on bail on a murder case, had been violating his bail conditions.

“In addition to the firearm charge, the suspect now faces serious legal consequences for this breach.
“The suspect is also linked to cybercrime activities as he was involved in online robberies,” he said.
Mahamba said the suspect is suspected of using social media platforms such as Facebook to sell stolen vehicles, taking advantage of unsuspecting buyers.
The suspect is still in police custody and will appear in court soon to face charges related to the possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition, and violation of bail conditions.

The metro police also recovered three stolen vehicles, working on a tip-off from a tracking company.
“Two of the vehicles were recovered in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria, while the third vehicle was recovered in Mamelodi.
“Tactical unit members received a call from the tracking company regarding the hijacked cars, which led to the successful recovery of the stolen vehicles.”
He said the TMPD continues to work closely with other stakeholders and the community to ensure public safety and prevent crime.
