Metro police tactical unit arrest two suspects for hijacking

Police also recovered drugs and weapons during the arrests.

Members of the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) recently apprehended two hijacking suspects on separate occasions and recovered two stolen vehicles.

TMPD Tactical Unit officers arrested one suspect in Pretoria West on February 2 during an operation to track well-known criminals in the area linked to various offences.

According to a statement published by the TMPD, the suspect was in possession of drugs and weapons when the police arrested him.

“During the operation, one male suspect was arrested at his place of residence. The suspect was found in possession of seven bags of crystal meth, unlicensed firearms and ammunition,” the statement read.

The arrest was followed up with another on February 3 in East Lynne.

This time the unit recovered a Ford Ranger with the assistance of a tracking company.

“The bakkie was reported as hijacked in Koedoespoort. Another vehicle, a Nissan NP200 bakkie, was sent for an enquiry after the members discovered that the engine was tampered with,” the statement continued.

The unit also responded to a call from a tracking company requesting assistance with a Toyota Hilux which was hijacked in Themba, Hammanskraal on January 28.

Officers tracked down and recovered the vehicle and arrested the male occupant for possession of a stolen vehicle.

TMPD Chief, Yolanda Faro commended her members for their swift recoveries.
