Irate parents demand principal step down
Parents are tired of the principal and demand she vacates her position.
Parents of Pfunzo Ndi Tshedza Primary School took to demonstrations on Monday.
The demonstration was the second aimed at stressing for the school principal to vacate her office.
Irate parents embarked on a protest preventing the principal from entering the school premises on February 28, demanding she steps down.
They accused her of maladministration and corruption.
Gauteng Education spokesperson, Steve Mabona said his department was aware of the allegations of mismanagement of funds levelled against the principal.
“The department strongly condemns the disruption of schools and urges all stakeholders to use available structures to raise issues of concern and not to disrupt schooling,” said Mabona.
“As such, we are investigating circumstances surrounding the matter.
“It must be noted that the SGB of the said school is fully constituted, and that members are actively involved in its operations as per their roles within the SGB.”
Mabona said lost learning time is not easily recovered.
Joyce Matlou from Mamelodi East claimed that the principal was not working in the best interest of the school since 2019.
Parents said the principal had done nothing to advance the school infrastructure.
Matlou accused the principal of encouraging the maintenance contractor to charge the school more for work done.
“We are tired of the principal’s unruly behaviour and [she] does not cooperate with teachers and the SGB,” she said.
The parents claimed the principal decides who must attend the school meetings, only inviting two members of the SGB, while ignoring the rest of the members.
“We are concerned about how the principal runs the school, how she addresses learners at assembly, complaining about parents and teachers hating her,” claimed Matlou.
“We are not fighting against the principal, but her services at the school are no longer wanted as she is fighting with everyone. She is not a good example for the school and she must hand in her resignation.”
She accused the principal of holding secret meetings aimed at expelling certain teachers.
The parents further stressed that they had notified the head to the Department of Basic Education since last year, however no communique was received on the matters.
Other parents vowed they will continue disrupting school activity until the principal resigns.
They claimed they have tried to cultivate a good working relationship with her but anyone who makes a dissenting point, is fired for being disrespectful.
