Metro police raid north, Mamelodi businesses
Police enforced by-laws and made sure businesses were compliant.
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), together with other stakeholders, conducted two separate by-law operations in Winternest, north of Pretoria and another in the Mamelodi region on Tuesday.
TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said metro police are consistent in enforcing by-laws in Tshwane.
Mahamba said the operation’s main focus was business compliance.
“TMPD regional members in Region 1 Sector 2 conducted a successful operation where four businesses were closed due to non-compliance with the Businesses Act, 1991 (Act 71 of 1991) and a suspect was arrested for possession of and dealing in illicit cigarettes,” said Mahamba.
“In Mamelodi, a parallel operation was conducted by TMPD regional members in Region 6 Sector 1. The operation yielded successful results where 19 Section 56 infringement notices were issued to businesses which did not comply with the rules and regulations of the Businesses Act, 1991 for a total value of R37 500.”
He added that the electricity supply to nine businesses was disconnected due to illegal connections.
“Expired and counterfeit goods were also confiscated,” he said.
“The TMPD is pleading with business operators to adhere to the rules and regulations when conducting their businesses.”
Mahamba concluded by congratulating officers for a job well done.
