Two nabbed in Laudium for illegal firearms possession
The operation highlights ongoing police commitment to rooting out illegal weapons and ensuring community safety across Tshwane.
Police made two arrests on charges of possessing illegal weapons on the evening of April 15 after receiving a report that suspicious people were walking along Bengal Street in Laudium.
According to police spokesperson Captain Johan van Dyk, officers on arrival, identified two men who matched the description reported.
“The suspects were questioned but failed to provide satisfactory responses. A search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of two firearms in their possession,” he said.
He said the individuals were unable to produce valid firearm licences or offer a reasonable explanation for being in possession of the firearms and ammunition.
“Both suspects were arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”
Van Dyk said further investigations are underway to determine if the recovered firearms are linked to any other criminal activity in the area.
Tshwane District Commissioner Major-General Samuel Thine praised the members for their prompt response and vigilance that led to the arrest and the removal of dangerous weapons from the community.
In addition, Thine emphasised the importance of continued police visibility and community cooperation in fighting crime.
