Burst pipe near Unisa cuts water supply to CBD

Teams are currently trenching through to get to the leakage of the 400mm HDPE pipe.

Parts of the CBD, Sunnyside, Arcadia and Eastwood have been without water as the Tshwane metro repaired a burst pipe on Willow Road.

Teams are currently trenching through to get to the leak.

The team had to first close and isolate the 375mm steel pipe chamber next to Unisa before pumping the water out to assess the leakage.

“It is suspected that the valve was damaged during the repair process of the 1 000mm HDPE pipe, which is a feeder to the damaged pipeline. Once trenching is completed, the team will cut and replace the damaged pipe,” the Tshwane metro said in a released statement.

Water tankers will continue to supply the affected consumers while technicians work towards restoration.

Consumers will be updated as and when there are developments.
