Waterkloof break-in suspect due in docks
A 39-year-old man was arrested after a break-in at a Waterkloof home. Police spokesperson Marinda Austin says they will oppose a bail application.
A 39-year-old suspect is expected to appear in court on July 3 after being arrested for house robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm in Waterkloof.
The man was caught in the early hours of Tuesday morning following a break-in at a private residence, where he allegedly tied up the property’s gardener and stole his personal belongings.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Marinda Austin, said the suspect will appear on Thursday and that they will oppose a bail application.
According to French Jooste, operations manager at Bull Security, their control centre received an alarm activation from the client’s premises.
He said armed response officers were immediately dispatched.
“Upon arrival, our officers found the property’s gardener, who resides on the premises, outside, cable-tied and lying on the ground.”
Jooste said the victim told the officers the suspect had forcibly entered his room, restrained him, and stolen personal belongings, including a cellphone and a notebook.

He added that the suspect fled when he heard the approaching vehicles.
“Our officers conducted a thorough search of the property and located the suspect hiding at the back of the premises.
“Upon being discovered, the suspect attempted to flee on foot. A chase ensued, and our officers swiftly apprehended the individual,” Jooste said.
Jooste said the stolen items were recovered, and the suspect was found in possession of break-in tools.
