Local farmers market remains popular in Pretoria

Saturday's event saw high attendance with many enjoying an early and chilly morning.

Thousands of Pretoria residents rose early on Saturday to visit the Pretoria Boeremark (farmer’s market) located on Moreleta Street in Silverton.

The market in open every Saturday from early in the morning, as farmers gather to be ready at 05:30.

Vendors set up over 200 stalls at daybreak, ready to showcase their fresh vegetables and high-quality goods to visitors and locals who appreciate natural flavours and quality.

The market also caters to those with an artistic side, offering a wide range of arts and crafts, handmade clothing, jewellery, woodwork, and niche products.

On chilly winter mornings, fires are lit to help shoppers stay cosy and warm as they enjoy a steaming cup of hot coffee before stocking up on delicious food and beautiful items.

Tenneille Heunis, a regular visitor, remarked that you can find almost anything you desire at the market.

“If you arrive early enough, you might even be able to enjoy the sunrise as part of your market experience.”

Visitors enjoyed exquisite jewellery, plants, canned goods, fresh chicken and meat, cheeses, farm-fresh milk, steel art, and wooden crafts.

Eve Palmer, a newcomer selling potjiekos, expressed that the Boeremark is a wonderful place to be, highlighting the welcoming atmosphere.

Overall, the Pretoria Boeremark offers a vibrant community experience, where shoppers can indulge in a variety of products while enjoying the warmth of camaraderie and creativity.
