Central police step up Easter safety efforts

Authorities detained 19 suspects during a joint operation, with plans to intensify policing at malls and transport hubs to ensure public safety during the upcoming holiday period.

Officers from the Pretoria Central Police Station and partners arrested 19 suspects this weekend for various offences during a co-ordinated crime prevention effort in the CBD.

“A roadblock was conducted, which led to bringing the wrongdoers to the might of the law. Some 17 suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol… and another two for possession of illegal substances,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Thabang Nkhumise.

The Station Commander, Brigadier Hlengani Gibin Mashaba, welcomed the arrests and commended Captain P Maleka and her team for maintaining law and order in the CBD and policing precinct.

He said residents should be advised that these operations will intensify as the Easter weekend approaches.
