High turnout for youth development workshop highlights community demand
A youth empowerment workshop in Soshanguve attracted more participants than expected, reflecting a need for platforms supporting young people. Organisers say the programme focused on mindset development and leadership, helping attendees gain clarity and confidence through interactive sessions.
A youth leadership and personal development workshop held in Soshanguve has left a lasting impact on local young people, equipping them with tools for self-growth, confidence, and leadership.
According to organiser Sifisokuhle Mkhwanazi, the primary goal of the event was to inspire and empower youth through self-leadership and mindset development.
“Our main objective was to empower young people with tools for self-leadership, confidence, and personal growth,” explained Mkhwanazi.
Through collaboration with Dr Lesego Mawela, AfterSkoolIsLit, and Maxwell Leadership, the initiative aimed to ignite a positive shift in how young people see themselves and their future.
Mkhwanazi expressed pride in the outcome of the workshop, noting that the objectives were successfully achieved.
“We saw real engagement and transformation among the youth,” he said.
The event attracted an impressive turnout, with participation exceeding expectations. The strong attendance highlighted a growing need for youth-focused platforms in Soshanguve.
“It showed that young people in Soshanguve are eager for platforms that speak to their growth and future,” added Mkhwanazi.
The workshop featured a variety of interactive and engaging activities designed to connect with attendees on a personal level.
Among the highlights were leadership sessions, real-life storytelling, a dance competition, and a blindfolded activity.
These elements created an environment where participants felt comfortable opening up about their challenges.
“One of the most impactful moments was seeing young people open up about their personal challenges and begin to see themselves differently.
“The interactive sessions truly connected with them,” said Mkhwanazi.
The response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Many participants actively engaged in discussions, asked questions, and reflected deeply on their self-worth.
Mkhwanazi noted that the sessions on self-image and self-leadership resonated strongly with the youth, sparking meaningful conversations and personal breakthroughs.
“Participants expressed that the event helped them gain clarity, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. Many asked for more sessions like this in the future.”
Despite minor logistical challenges, the event ran smoothly due to effective teamwork and co-ordination among organisers and partners.
Mkhwanazi said these challenges did not detract from the overall experience, ensuring a seamless and impactful day for attendees.
He also shared that several young people who were initially shy found the courage to participate actively and even demonstrate leadership qualities during activities.
Beyond the day’s activities, the event has contributed to long-term empowerment within the community.
By creating a safe and supportive space, it encouraged young people to express themselves and build confidence.
“It planted seeds of confidence, leadership, and self-belief that will continue to impact their lives,” he said.
