The Tshwane Flying Squad recovered two stolen vehicles in the west of Pretoria on August 8.
The first vehicle, a white Ford Ranger DLV, was found at 12:45 while the Flying Squad were conducting visible crime-prevention patrols in the Atteridgeville area.
The officers discovered an abandoned white Ford Ranger DLV on 19th Road, in an informal settlement in Atteridgeville. It was found to have been reported stolen in Wierdabrug, Centurion.
The vehicle was subsequently taken to the Pretoria West Vehicle Crime Investigating Unit and booked in with an estimated value of about R575 000.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Frans Spang said later that day at 14:15, the squad received information regarding another stolen vehicle in Philip Nel Park.
“Upon arrival at the given address… members found a Hyundai Staria. The registration number was tested and confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen.
“The vehicle belongs to a vehicle-rental company in KwaZulu-Natal. It is alleged that a person rented the vehicle and failed to return it. The vehicle was found completely stripped on the inside,” Spang said.
The estimated value of the vehicle is about R490 000, and there are no suspects yet in either case.
The recovered vehicles were taken to the Pretoria West pound for further investigation after officers from the Local Criminal Record Centre processed them both.
Police are continuing investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the thefts and to identify and locate the suspects involved.
