Eastern community donation drive brings relief to families in need

A Pretoria East donation drive is helping vulnerable residents with essential food, clothing and bedding while encouraging continued community support.

The Moreleta Park Action Plan (MAP) NPC has co-ordinated the donation of warm clothing, bedding, and essential non-perishable food items to assist vulnerable residents across Pretoria East.

The donations were handed over to the Alpha Care Unit (ACU), a community outreach division of the Alpha Security Forum, which will distribute the items to individuals and families experiencing hardship in the area.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by community organisations to support residents facing economic challenges and ensure that basic needs are met during difficult times.

According to Johan Booysens from MAP, community support extends beyond crime prevention and security services.

“Community well-being extends beyond safety and security. It is about ensuring that those who are struggling know they are not alone and that their community cares about their welfare,” said Booysens.

MAP representative Lucia Venter said the donations would provide immediate relief to households affected by increasing financial pressures while also restoring hope and dignity to those in need.

“As economic pressures continue to affect many households, these donations will help provide immediate relief to residents facing difficult circumstances while also restoring a sense of dignity, hope and support during challenging times,” she said.

Venter explained that the donation drive forms part of MAP NPC’s broader commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen and uplift communities in Pretoria East.

“The donation forms part of MAP NPC’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen and uplift the Pretoria East community,” she said.

By partnering with the Alpha Care Unit, MAP aims to expand the reach of existing humanitarian programmes and ensure assistance reaches residents most in need.

“Both organisations share a common vision of fostering a stronger, more resilient community, and future support initiatives may be explored as needs arise in service of the broader community,” Venter added.

She said the success of such outreach programmes depends heavily on public support and encouraged community members, businesses and organisations to contribute where possible.

“Community members, local businesses and individuals who wish to contribute clothing, food or financial support are encouraged to contact the organisations,” she said.
