Pretoria weather: Scorching days ahead with little chance of rain

Pretoria temperatures could reach 35°C as hot, sunny conditions persist, with little chance of rain bringing relief over the weekend.

Pretoria weather is set to remain hot and mostly dry over the coming days, with temperatures forecast to reach 35°C on Thursday and Friday, October 22 and 23.

According to AccuWeather’s latest forecast, sunny conditions will dominate both days. The forecasting service flags a risk of dehydration and heatstroke during strenuous outdoor activities, with overnight temperatures expected to drop to 17°C on Thursday and 15°C on Friday.

Vox Weather’s forecast for Thursday indicates partly cloudy conditions in Gauteng during the morning, followed by fine and hot weather. It places the province’s expected UVB sunburn index in the extreme category.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS), in its travellers’ forecast issued at 04:30 on Thursday, mentions a heatwave affecting parts of the Western Bushveld of Limpopo until Friday, October 23. Pretoria and Gauteng are not named in that advisory.

AccuWeather forecasts a slight dip in Pretoria’s maximum temperature to 31°C on Saturday, October 24, before temperatures rise to around 33°C from Sunday to Tuesday.

Its outlook puts the daytime chance of rain at between 0% and 1% from Thursday through Tuesday, suggesting little immediate prospect of rain bringing relief.

The private forecasting service also identifies a potential heatwave in Pretoria from Sunday, October 25, to Tuesday, October 27. This is AccuWeather’s assessment, separate from the SAWS heatwave advisory reviewed, which applies to parts of Limpopo.

Residents planning outdoor activities should keep the forecast heat and extreme UVB levels in mind and monitor updated forecasts as conditions may change.
