Municipal land transfer aims to spearhead new housing development
According to MMC Kholofelo Morodi, the project will integrate affordable rental stock, First Home Finance units, and bonded housing, supported by small-scale retail outlets and open recreational spaces.
The Tshwane Metro recently confirmed its transfer of a plot of land in the CBD that will be used to develop the Madiba Heights housing project.
MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, as well as the Chairperson for the Bad Buildings Mayoral Sub-Committee, Kholofelo Morodi, confirmed that the city has approved the transfer of 28 stands in the CBD.
Morodi said the decision falls within the oversight of her portfolio, under which the Group Property Department has played a central role in consolidating and preparing the land parcels for release.
She maintains that the successful transfer demonstrates the city’s commitment to unlocking municipal assets for residents’ benefit.
“The Madiba Heights development will see the construction of more than 600 residential units across four high-rise blocks. The project will integrate affordable rental stock, First Home Finance units, and bonded housing, supported by small-scale retail outlets and open recreational spaces.”
She hopes that by bringing this project forward, the metro advances its broader priorities of housing delivery, urban renewal, and economic growth in the capital city.
“The transfer also ensures that well-located land in the CBD is put to productive use, creating opportunities for dignified living close to transport, jobs, and amenities. We will continue to lead efforts to ensure that city-owned properties are effectively utilised to meet housing needs, stimulate investment, and build inclusive communities,” she added.
