Local artist releases second mixtape in honour of late mother

Each song sounds completely different from the last.

Samuel Tabara (24) released his second hip-hop mixtape titled “The Faded Colours Mixtape” six years after releasing his first.

Known as Bilmar from Arcadia in Pretoria, he said the mixtape was made to honour his late mother who died in 2018.

“It is a body of work that consists of 16 songs, by two producers and one singer – without a single feature,” he said.

Bilmar said the uniqueness in his music is phenomenal.

“I have hardly heard of a singer that can release a full 16-track body without a feature and the songs sound so good.

“It is almost unheard of, and each song I do sounds completely different from the last, signifying my outstanding versatility.”

Bilmar said he released his first mixtape titled “Colours Mixtape” when he was in matric.

“It was about how vibrant and stress-free life was.”

Bilmar said he started singing at the age of six.

“My mother was in fact the person that literally discovered my talent.

“But it was only in 2017 when I took it seriously in terms of recording.

“Because in 2015 when I began recording, I was recognised as a rapper despite my mother’s constant reminder that I was indeed a singer,” he said.

Bilmar has released 22 songs besides the mixtape.

“Three songs received a nomination for the “Artist of the Year” award in 2020 at the first annual 012 Awards but I came fifth.
