BOXOP 3 rocks Centurion
Two of South Africa’s leading female celebrities kept a live audience on the edge of their seats at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Saturday.
Angelique Gerber and Tasché Burger dazzled in the ‘showdown of the year’ Women’s Super-Featherweight fight in Centurion recently.
In the fight, four rounds of one and a half minutes each, the girls didn’t hold back any punches in fighting for their cause.
Angelique Gerber (film and television actress and influencer) fought for Family Protection Association, an NGO dedicated to rescuing women and children from abusive and violent situations.

Angelique said her grandmother, Suzie (seen on her belt), who died in an gender-based violence incident, inspired her choice of cause.

Tasché Burger (rock musician and recent The Voice SA winner) dedicated her fight and proceeds to everybody who faces ‘the indignity of intolerance and ignorance’ day after day as she raised funds for Yellow for Survivors, an NPC dedicated to providing resources and safe spaces for victims of rape and gender-based abuse.

Before the fight, the crowd in the stadium and at home were entertained by some of South Africans biggest artists.

The line-up included Francois van Coke, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Brendan Peyper, Refentse, Janie Bay, Kurt Darren, Rubber Duc, Synth Peter, Posduif, Jan Bloukaas and Sunset Sweatshop.
Crowd favourite Early B showed up and went all out with his performance building up the excitement and energy before the big show.
A jumbo stage, runway and boxing rink in the middle dominated the field, and the production didn’t shy away from creating a stunning, enthralling and heart-pounding event.
The main fight and overall event were lived-streamed nationally and internationally to an audience of over 5 000 viewers.

Each moment from entrance to the final ring of the bell was nerve-wrecking and nail-biting.
By the second round both fighters were bloodied up and filled with adrenaline. The first half seemed to belong to Tasché, who hit with power and strength but Angelique pushed herself hard in the last two rounds. Angelique’s technique and fast punching won in the end.

The fans had their favourites and weren’t shy to let everyone know who they supported. Angelique won on points to be crowned champion of BOXOP Edition 3, the first instalment in the series of ladies boxing matches.
A cheque to an astonishing amount of R250 000 was shared by the two organisations after the fight.
