Primary school teacher allegedly assaults colleague

"That teacher is a bully and rude. What else needs to be brought to the schools attention or happen before this teacher is removed?"

An assault case was opened at the Eersterust police station against a Fred Migardie primary school teacher after a colleague claimed that he grabbed her by the arm and shook her violently.

The victim, Susan Andrews (34), claimed she was attacked by the senior teacher “out of the blue” in the school’s staff room on Wednesday, July 20.

Her concerned father, Victor “Java” Anderson, said his daughter was now fearing her life and her career.

“I went to the school to address the incident and asked if anything will be done to protect my child from her attacker. Instead, I was told to leave the premises as the teacher opened a case against me for ‘unlawfully’ gaining access to the premises.”

“All I wanted to know was why the teacher hit my daughter and what steps were going to be put in place to ensure my daughter’s safety,” Anderson said.

He mentioned that his daughter was traumatised and shocked following the incident.

“My daughter has been a teacher at the school for over 10 years now, and there have never been any such incidents at the school. However, my daughter is back at school as she knows what her responsibility towards her learners is,” he said.

The Gauteng Department of Education’s acting spokesperson, Oupa Bodibe, said the department was aware and deeply concerned about the allegations brought forward against the educator who allegedly assaulted a teacher at Fred Migardie.

“We have launched an investigation and as such necessary action will be taken accordingly. We strongly condemn the alleged conduct of the educator,” Bodibe said.

He said that the department has already dispatched a psycho-social team to the school to provide the necessary support.
