Third time unlucky for Moot burglar
A burglar was caught after he broke into a Rietfontein resident's property for the third time.
It was third time unlucky for the burglar as he was caught trying to rob a Rietfontein resident for the third time earlier this year.
Sfiso Mnisi (33), who stole power tools worth around R50 000 from the resident’s garage in the Moot, was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in the Pretoria magistrate’s court recently.
Mnisi was arrested on Wednesday, February 2 for housebreaking and theft.
The complainant noticed that several of his power tools were stolen from his garage and he opened a case at the Pretoria Moot police station.
The case was assigned to Warrant Officer Gina Brink from the Pretoria Moot detective services to investigate.
According to police spokesperson Captain Anton Breedt, Mnisi was caught on CCTV video footage as he returned to the scene.
Breedt said the a complainant’s friend, who was monitoring the security system on the occasion immediately contacted the police.
“He was arrested on the premises and detained for trespassing. He also had two other cases against him, also of housebreaking at the same premises,” Breedt said.
He said the court convicted Mnisi on the three charges and sentenced him to 10 years, three of which suspended for five years.
Acting Pretoria Moot police station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Samuel Tselana applauded the determination of the complainant and investigating officer to bring Mnisi to book.
