Stolen cattle recovered by Kameeldrift police, man arrested

“The owner explained that recently 25 cows were stolen from his property.”

A case of stock theft was opened by the Kameeldrift SAPS after a man was caught in possession of cows on August 7 that had reportedly been stolen from a farm in Rust de Winter recently.

Kameeldrift police spokesperson Sergeant Mavis Sindane said they received a complaint of a stationary white Ford Ranger with an attached trailer that carried three cattle close to the Cullinan off-ramp.

“The driver of the vehicle told police that he was transporting the cows to Soshanguve. When he was asked to produce the relevant documentation of the livestock, he was unable to.

“A vehicle driving past recognised the cattle in the trailer and called the owner who arrived on the scene with supporting documents as proof that these were his cattle.

“The owner explained that recently 25 cattle were stolen from his property.”

Sindane added that the SAPS stock theft unit was called to conduct a background check, which showed that the driver of the white bakkie had a warrant of arrest on stock theft charges in Ekangala after he failed to appear in court.

“The 40-year-old male was arrested as per his warrant and charged with stock theft for the recent theft.”
