Over 500 suspects arrested during Tshwane operations

Various law enforcement agencies led a high-density operation in Villieria over the weekend.

Law enforcement in the Tshwane district, including various units of police, arrested over 500 people during multidisciplinary operations, including high density and Vhuthu Hawe operations.

The acting district commissioner, Brigadier Samuel Thine accompanied by Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Phalama Jacob Mamabolo and senior management of various law enforcement agencies led the high-density operation in Villieria from Saturday night to the early hours of Sunday.

During the tracing of wanted suspects, the Tshwane district team managed to arrest 228 people of which 65 were suspects in gender-based violence crimes.

Members of crime intelligence, Garsfontein police, and Brinant security firm raided on a house in Mamelodi West.

Thine said a 38-year-old was arrested in possession of stolen property and unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The suspect was linked to two house robberies committed in Garsfontein,” he said.

Furthermore, the district managed to close over 14 non-compliant liquor outlets. A total of 27 people were detained for drug-related crimes and 72 for contravention of the immigration act.

The roadblocks conducted across the district netted 37 suspects for driving under the influence of alcohol and 64 for consuming alcohol in public.

In addition, over 2 458 people and 1 543 vehicles were searched while a total of 112 fines for contravention of the Road Traffic Act were also issued.

Other suspected crimes for which the arrests were effected included illegal possession of drugs, common robbery, undocumented persons, malicious damage to property, illegal possession of a firearm, attempted business robbery, common assault, theft, common robbery, shoplifting, carjacking, and attempted murder.

Brigadier Thine urged residents to be ware fraudsters and ATM scammers.

“Avoid consuming alcohol in public areas and driving under the influence of alcohol.

“We would like to thank law enforcement agencies for the good work done.

“Suspects are set to appear in court in due course,” he said.
