Eskom warns of possible stage 2 load-shedding

Stage 2 load-shedding may be implemented from 16:00 until midnight.

Eskom may implement stage 2 load-shedding on Wednesday evening due to a decline in generation capacity.

The power utility warned residents of possible power cuts during the peak hours of the evening.

The utility said stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until midnight.

In a statement, the utility said the breakdowns of a generation unit at the Majuba, Tutuka and two at Kriel power stations have put a severe strain on the power generation system.

“The delay in returning two generation units at Arnot, a unit each at Kusile and Hendrina power stations to operation has exacerbated the electricity generation constraints,” the statement read.

“We currently have 4 479MW capacity on planned maintenance, while another 12 951MW is unavailable due to breakdowns.”

The utility urged residents to continue using electricity sparingly, especially during the uncertain times on the power system.
