Pretoria West man (35) dies after hit by vehicle

The man was crossing the street when he was struck by the car.

A 35-year-old man sustained fatal injuries when he was struck by a car in Andeon, Pretoria West, on Thursday morning.

The incident happened a few minutes before 06:00 on Kenneth Street, said Ambu-Link emergency medical services operations manager, Albert Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen.

Albert told Rekord that the driver was on her way to work in Silverton when the accident happened.

“The deceased and two other men were crossing the street,” he said.

“The deceased got to the middle of the street, stopped and tried to turn towards the opposite direction.”

Albert said the woman applied her brakes but still struck the 35-year-old.

He said Ambu-Link paramedics declared the man dead on the scene.

“The man was also on his way to work,” he said.

“He works close to where the accident happened.”

Albert added that it was a still quite dark when the man was struck by the car.

He said it was possible that the driver could not see the three men from afar as it was still dark.

He added that no one else was injured.
