An elderly man burned to death after he was trapped inside a house fire in Cunningham Avenue in Waverley, Moot in the early hours of Sunday, August 7.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said firefighters arrived on the scene and found the house engulfed by fire with most of the roof already having collapsed.
“Several emergency services were called for assistance. A person from the family was reported missing during the fire.
“The fire brigade got the fire under control and entered the house, but unfortunately found the man’s burned and charred remains in one of the rooms when the fire was doused at around 06:30,” Mabaso said.
The firefighting units remained on the scene until 07:28 when cooling of hotspots was completed.
“It is not known how many people were in the house when it caught alight.
“The scene has been handed over to police. The cause of the fire has not been determined yet,” he said.
First Help, Kilnerpark security (KPS) and MON AMI trauma troops were also some of the first responders on the scene.
“On behalf of KPS, we share our condolences with the family,” spokesperson Ancelize van der Kooi said.
