Air show returns to Centurion at end of month
Residents around Waterkloof Air Force base will soon hear the noise of planes again.
The return of the African Aerospace and Defence expo to the Waterkloof air force base has been met with mixed reactions by Lyttelton residents.
Resident Ronnie Mokhethi, wasn’t really happy with the expo.
“I work nightshifts and with the expo coming it means no sleep for me.”
Mokhethi also didn’t see any benefit to the expo.
“Our kids are unemployed, but our government spends money on useless things. People are starving; they need work, yet money is being used on pointless things like the expo.”
The expo will take place from September 21-25.
This year’s format remains unchanged with the event keeping to the traditional three trade days and two air show days over the weekend.
The Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD) is Africa’s only Aerospace and Defence expo that combines both a trade exhibition and an air show. It is held biannually in Tshwane.
Defence minister Thandi Modise officially launched the expo earlier in May this year.
Modise congratulated the expo team for unveiling an appropriate theme for this year, namely “Exploring New Paths, Sharing Solutions, Showcasing Innovation and Capabilities”.
