CPF members earn security guard certificates
Thirty CPF members received free training to become security officers and earned Psira certificates to help them find jobs.
A total of 30 Mamelodi CPF members received their security officer certificates after they underwent three weeks training recently.
The training was offered by MIG Services for free to empower the CPF volunteer members to control, discipline, marshal strike actions.
The award ceremony was held at the Mamelodi Council chambers on Friday.
Managing Director of MIG, Michael Khumalo said he was asked by Mamelodi CPF chairperson Eddie Mnguni to train the volunteers who put their lives in danger for their community.
He said he offered 30 CPF members free security officer training, which took three weeks to complete, and free Psira (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) certificates to help them find jobs at any security company.
“We feel that there is a need to empower them but they were not in any position to approach any service provider for paying jobs.
“We were very touched when we heard their stories and how dedicated they are to their work,” said Khumalo.
Khumalo said the company decided to start with 30 trainees and they loved it but could not afford to pay for the training.
He said the three week course is for Grades E, D and C.
Mnguni said he felt the security officer training was a good reward for the CPF members because they worked hard without getting paid as volunteers.
He said they put their lives in danger working in a bad and risky environment to bring peace and stability to the township.
He added that MIG would keep the graduates on record and, depending on the availability of positions at the company, hire them.
“The CPF members have been involved in many things and also during the looting guarded the malls but were not recognised for their good work because they did not have a security certificate. So we offered them the certificate because we want them to get jobs.”
His said the moral of the story is that people who give to their community without expecting anything back get lucky.
Calvin Phetla of Mamelodi West said he joined the CPF in 2012 to become part and parcel of the fight to reduce the crime that was escalating rapidly in the area before it got out of control.
“The Psira certificate will help me in finding a job and I would like to thank MIG for this big opportunity,” said Phetla.
Regina Khumalo of Mamelodi said she joined CPF in 2019 and the training she had received from MIG would open doors for her.
