Pretoria West residents urged to look out for GBV suspect

“The accused was soon aggravated again and began assaulting the victim. In fear for her life, the victim was forced to jump from a third-storey floor to escape.”

Pretoria West police have asked for the public’s help in finding a man who allegedly assaulted his partner so badly that she jumped from a third-storey floor to escape him out of fear for her life.

Alfred Sizwe Mnguni (29) is wanted for grievous bodily harm (GBH), kidnapping, assault and robbery following the incident last year, according to Pretoria West police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.

Mnguni is accused of assaulting a former partner multiple times and has been evading police since an arrest warrant was issued.

Allegedly during a week-long visit to her then-partner’s home last year, the victim was in the shower while the accused was using her phone.

“Police and the victim do not know what set the accused off; however, the victim was dragged out of the shower by her neck when the accused began berating and assaulting her,” said Vuma.

“The victim (unclothed) ran to a nearby flat for assistance; however, the accused managed to find her and convince her to return to the flat.

“The accused brought the victim’s clothes as a gesture of goodwill and apologised repeatedly under the pretence that he was seeking reconciliation.

“The victim (now clothed) returned to the flat with the accused to sort out their differences,” Vuma said.

“The accused was soon aggravated again and began assaulting the victim. In fear for her life, the victim was forced to jump out of the apartment window to escape.”

The victim suffered numerous injuries including a broken leg, Vuma said.

“The victim had to undergo six different operations on her leg and missed eight months of school due to hospitalisation because she is a student at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).”

In a separate incident, Mnguni is said to have assaulted his former partner last year with a glass Coke bottle during an argument after he refused to let her go visit her family back home.

Vuma cautioned residents to be careful as they have received information that he is involved with an NPO.

“We want the public to be aware of this man. He doesn’t pitch when we set appointments at the station and the public is not safe with him at large,” said Vuma

In addition to evading police, the suspect was reportedly intimidating the victim to have the charges dropped against him.

“We find it concerning that he is part of an NPO, working with children. He is a danger to anyone around him and needs to be brought in,” concluded Vuma.

Anyone with info relating to the suspect should contact the police on 012 327 4907/ 0800 10111.
