Shooting at Laudium informal settlement leaves woman injured
One suspect was armed with a shotgun.
A woman was shot and injured during a shootout at a taxi rank near the Itireleng informal settlement in Laudium on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Laudium police spokesperson Simon Chokoe, the police were performing their usual duties in the area when they heard gunfire coming from the side of the taxi rank’s entrance.
“They rushed into the direction of the taxi rank when suspects were spotted running away.
“One was armed with a shotgun and the others had pistols.
“Police chased the suspects, but they got away.
“It was alleged that the suspects were shooting randomly into the taxi rank. One woman was shot in her upper body and she was taken to a hospital for treatment.”
A case of attempted murder has been opened with the Laudium police.
No arrests have been made and the motive for the shooting remains unknown.
