As the excitement around the African Aerospace and Defence Expo continues to build, the SAAF released a list of activities that will take place on the day in Centurion.
The show, which will be held at Waterkloof air base from September 21-25, is set to kick off with a procession of emergency vehicles followed by the Hawk, which will open the display.
The Hawk is one of the most sophisticated aircrafts ever made. It is equipped with the Saab avionics electronic warfare system, which comprises a radar warning receiver and a counter-measure dispenser subsystem. The aircraft has been developed based on the multisensory system, which was developed for the SAAF’s fighters, and can later be expanded or upgraded if required.
The programme also includes a hijacking/hostage demonstration by the SAPS and SAAF, featuring the BK117 helicopter.
This year’s format remains unchanged from previous years. The event will stick to the traditional three trade days and two air show days over the weekend.
The expo is the only one in Africa that combines both a trade exhibition and an air show. It is held biannually in Tshwane.
Defence minister Thandi Modise officially launched the expo earlier in May this year.
She congratulated the expo team for unveiling an appropriate theme for this year, namely “Exploring new paths, sharing solutions, showcasing innovation and capabilities”
