Two fake metro employees arrested for bribery

Two suspects were arrested for fraud, corruption and impersonating metro employees after they asked a Gezina businessowner to pay a bribe to not disconnect his electricity on September 8.
According to Tshwane metro police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, TMPD received a complaint and its cable theft unit responded promptly.
He said the unit found two men posing as metro employees.
“They had demanded R150 000 from the owner of the business to make sure that his electricity bill disappears. The owner told the men that he did not have the money then but would pay up the following day.
“The men agreed but still demanded some money and the business owner gave them R400.”
Mahamba said the unit found R400 on the suspects during arrest as alleged by the complainant.
He said further investigations regarding the case were ongoing.
“Well done to the teams involved, and the TMPD will continue to fight crime in Tshwane,” he said.
The public are encouraged to report cable theft on 012 358 1550 or the client service centre at the SANAB Building on the corner of Frederika and Johan Heyns streets in Gezina.
