Akasia police welcome 7-year jail term for housebreaker
The convict is currently serving his sentence at the Khosi Mampuru prison.
A Zimbabwean national has been sentenced to seven years in jail for housebreaking and illegal immigration.
Akasia police spokesperson Lindiwe Mabasa said the Pretoria North high court sentenced the man on September 6 for the crime committed in October 2021.
Mabasa said a complainant in The Orchards had woken up to discover that his belongings, valued at R60 000 had been stolen.
“The report stated that the complainant went through his CCTV footage with his helper, who recognised the suspect and informed her employee that the burglar resided in Dikolobeng informal settlement.
“Police arrested the suspect a week later and he confessed that he had indeed stolen the items and sold them. He took the police to the buyer’s house where the items were retrieved.
“The man who purchased the stolen goods was warned and fined and compelled to become a state witness.”
Detective Mahlasedi Mahlangu worked on the case to ensure conviction.
Acting station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Frans Modise welcomed the sentence and commended Mahlangu for his hard work.
The convict is currently serving his sentence at the Kgosi Mampuru prison.
