Soshanguve mother turns son in to police, two others arrested for shop burglary
A Soshanguve mother has turned her son in to the police after finding stolen items at home.
Three suspects remain in custody after Rietgat police arrested them on Tuesday following a business burglary and robbery at a SPAR complex in Soshanguve block FF.
An ice cream machine, popcorn machines, fridge, camping chair, kettle and extension cord were stolen.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the trio broke into the shop and stole the items and hid them at one of their homes, according to Rietgat police communications officer Stephen Maluleka.
“As a result, one of the parents saw these stolen items and called the police. Her son was was arrested and he pointed out his other two accomplices,” he said.
The three suspects, aged between 22 and 23 years, respectively made a brief appearance in the Soshanguve magistrate’s court on charges of business burglary.
They are yet to apply for bail.
Rietgat police station commander, Brigadier Molatelo Maphoto lauded the parent for blowing the whistle.
“I am grateful that today’s parents are no longer protecting their children but are part of us in combating crime,” said Brigadier Maphoto.
The station encouraged the community not to hesitate to call in tip-offs about any suspicious people in the area.
