A Soshanguve man was found guilty of killing his two-year-old son by feeding him poisoned sausages, by the Pretoria High Court on Wednesday, September 14.
He was also found guilty of the attempted murder of his eight- and 11-year-old sons, according to NPA spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
The man was also found guilty of raping his partner, who was the mother of his children in addition to a further three counts of contravention of a protection order.
Mahanjana said the man was in a relationship with the children’s mother from 2004 until 2018.
“The mother applied for a protection order against the accused; however, he contravened the order by assaulting her, breaking into her house, and raping her,” she said.
She added that the perpetrator’s family pressured her to drop the rape charges.
In August 2019, the man fetched his two-year-old son from his mother. He then fetched the two sons, aged eight and 11 at their paternal grandmother’s place and took them to his place.
“On their way, he fed them sausages that were laced with poison. When the 11-year-old refused to eat them, he assaulted him and forced him to eat,” she said.
Upon their arrival at home, the children fell ill. He then called their mother and told her that he was going to kill the children.
“The mother arrived and found the lifeless body of the two-year-old on top of his bed. She called the police and took the two children to hospital,” she said.
The court noted discrepancies in the accused’s testimony and found the two children’s testimony to be honest and credible.
The matter was postponed to November 7-11 for sentencing.
