Children not at risk at Zwartkop Christian school

Students at Zwartkop Christian school are not in danger due to speeding cars at the school, according to teachers and the principal.

School principal Daniël Kamp told Rekord that there has never been an incident of a child being struck by a car or any other traffic-related incident at the school.

This comes after some parents expressed worry about the speeding cars on the road opposite the school, which they believed was putting students in danger.

“This is one of the safest schools in Centurion and we make sure our students are as safe as possible,” he said.

“Some motorists do indeed break the speed limit on the road, but this has never put any of our students at risk. There has never been a single incident of a child getting hurt or hit by a car or a near miss.

“We do everything we can to keep our students as safe as possible.”

Community members, however, came together to paint lines on the road indicating drivers should slow down.

Kamp said the metro told them the road is not a priority for them due to its length.

Teacher Nadia Wilding said the children do not walk across the road and are not put in danger where they could get hurt.

“The school has a parking lot where parents drop them off every morning so the road poses no danger to them at all,” she said.

Another teacher said there has never been an incident of a child being struck or in any danger in all her 12 years of teaching at the school.
