Vodacom donates 20 JoJo tanks to Tshwane metro

Vodacom has donated 20 JoJo water tanks to the Tshwane metro.

The initiative forms part of Vodacom’s commitment to improve the lives of the communities it serves, the mobile operator said.

“Vodacom conducted research into the rising water shortages affecting communities in the Northern Gauteng region,” said Oyisa Besman, managing executive for Vodacom in the region.

“We recognised that JoJo tanks provide a reliable solution in enhancing access to water in areas facing water infrastructure challenges. We wanted to make a positive difference in people’s everyday lives.”

The 20 water tanks are being installed at strategic points in the metro, including Boschkop, Modderfontein, Lobchara, Forfar, Gelber, Zithobeni Heights, Rethabiseng, Ekangala and Rooipoort. Each tank has a capacity of 250l, and will store captured water to take the strain off the City’s water supply.

The tanks are able to accumulate rainwater for non-potable use, such as irrigation of food gardens and washing.

The tanks will provide a cost-effective, independent supply of water in an event of a water cut, as well as saving on municipal water usage, which has added benefits for the environment in conserving the precious resource.

“Our partnership with the metro in the installation of these water tanks puts into focus the importance of public and private sector collaboration. If we are to create a better future for all South Africans, we need to go further together,” said Besman.

Metro mayor Randall Williams thanked Vodacom for the initiative.
