Defence minister to open AAD air show today
The show, which takes place from September 21-25 this year, is set to kick off with a procession of emergency vehicles followed by the Hawk, which will open the display.

Defence and Military Veterans Minister Thandi Modise is expected to open the Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition (AAD) at the Waterkloof Air Force Base today.
The AAD is the largest defence and aerospace exhibition in Africa and takes place every two years.
The show, which takes place from September 21-25 this year, is set to kick off with a procession of emergency vehicles followed by the Hawk, which will open the display.
This year’s format remains unchanged from previous years. The event will stick to the traditional three trade days and two air show days over the weekend.
The expo is the only one in Africa that combines both a trade exhibition and an air show. It is held biannually in Tshwane.
Modise will officially use the opening of the show to officially welcome exhibitors and participants from different countries such as China, Cuba, Nigeria, Turkey, USA, Russia, United Kingdom, Pakistan, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia, to mention a few.
“Some of the key participants expected at the AAD 2022 are ministers of defence, deputy ministers, secretaries of defence, chiefs of defence, chiefs of the army, chiefs of the air force and chiefs of medical services from different countries.”
The minister officially launched the expo earlier this year.
At the time she congratulated the expo team for unveiling an appropriate theme for this year, namely “Exploring new paths, sharing solutions, showcasing innovation and capabilities”.
The air show comprises a world-class air demonstration, mobility track demonstrations, parachute drops, aerobatic displays and many other static displays from some of the biggest names in the aviation and defence industry who will demonstrate their latest and greatest aircraft.
There will also be organised children’s activities and attractions including a Youth Development Programme in a dedicated pavilion with a fun fly park where the youth will have interactive activities, such as plastic model building, virtual aviation, simulator, target shooting, and first-aid and crime scene investigation.
