Moloi is determined to stop UJ from retaining the Varsity Football title
The 2022 Varsity Football tournament will be concluded on Thursday September 22, when the University of Johannesburg and Tshwane University of Technology face each other in the final.
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) Men Football head coach Bushy Moloi felt confident heading into the Varsity Football final against the University of Johannesburg Football (UJ) on Thursday at 18:00.
The defending champions UJ will host TUT at UJ stadium looking to retain their title in front of their home crowd, but Moloi said they’re determined to stop that from happening.
He said UJ has introduced champions in the tournament and they are determined to stop that.
“We have seen them introducing winners and I think this time around we are not under pressure, UJ is and we will do whatever it takes to maintain the discipline to add another star to our jersey,” he said.
UJ defeated TUT on penalties in the semi-finals of the competition last year to advance into the finals and eventually won the title against Kovsies.
However, TUT bounced back against UJ in round 1 of this year’s varsity competition by defeating UJ 2-0 away from home.
TUT enjoyed a good away run of form in the tournament this season. They only lost to UP-Tuks and won four away games.
Moloi said playing the final game away might be a good thing considering that they have drawn their home matches.
“Maybe it is the best thing for us to be playing there considering our form at home? We are good travellers, so we will continue with that,” he said.
He added that being good travellers give them an extra boost of hope going into the final match.
“We hope our progress thus far doesn’t come to end,” he said.
He said this was more than a final, it is a match that makes him and his coaching staff proud of the players they are producing to play in the National First Division and the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
“We want our top-flight football to have educated and skilled footballers. We’ve had a number of them playing in the PSL. Last Sunday, our former player Terrence Mashego made his debut at Sundowns,” he said.
