Young people take interest in the army at airshow
Young people take interest in joining the army.

The second day of the Africa Aerospace and Defence Exhibition (AAD) was full of fun fare and activities.
Scores of learners from Limpopo came and witnessed Africa’s biggest air show ever.
Rekord spoke to two of the students from Bela-Bela high school from Limpopo, who expressed their joy and enthusiasm to be part of such a historic event.
Seventeen-year-old Kgotso Molokomme said he was happy to be at the show, saying that it opened his eyes to many things about careers in the military services.
“My being here has opened my eyes to a whole lot of things, I thought when you become a soldier you only carry a gun and all but I didn’t realise that you can also be a medical personnel, plumber and a mechanic in the military,” Molokomme added.
He said he was interested in joining the South African Air Force (SAAF) after he completed Grade 12. He said he’s doing maths and science currently and that’s the requirement for one to be part of the air force.

His counterpart Millicent Masemola, who also attended the expo, told Rekord she also loves what the military is doing.
Masemola said she would like to join the navy.
“I learned that there are not so many women in the army because of the physical strength aspect, but I know I am fit and strong to handle the training.”
Thursday’s programme kicked off with a hostage drama scenario whereby both the SAPS and the South African Defence Force (SANDF) displayed how they handle hostage situations and aircraft hijackings.
Defence minister Thandi Modise officially launched the expo on Wednesday at the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Centurion.
The AAD is the largest defence and aerospace exhibition in Africa and takes place every two years.
The show commenced on October 21 and will run until Sunday, October 25.
The show will officially be open to the public from Friday until Sunday.
This year’s format remains unchanged from previous years. The event will stick to the traditional three trade days and two air show days over the weekend.
