TUT Ladies victorious over Sundowns Ladies in the Tshwane derby

TUT Ladies got the last laugh after beating Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 1-0 on Sunday to end Sundowns’ 13-game unbeaten streak in the Hollywoodbets Super League.

TUT Ladies ended Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ 13-game unbeaten streak following a 1-0 victory in the Hollywoodbets Super League Tshwane derby at TUT Stadium on Sunday.

The victory makes TUT the second team to beat Sundowns this season after the University of Western Cape beat them 2-0 in May.

Marry Ntsweng scored an outrageous free-kick after coming on as a substitute in the second half to break the deadlock 21 minutes before the final whistle.

Ntsweng said the team was told to have fun and relax on the ball.

She said she took her free kick like a penalty, not a free kick.

“I said to myself just relax, it felt like I was taking a penalty and I just went for it,” she said.

She said claiming all bragging rights in the derby was a great feeling.

“For us, it’s more like taking it one game at a time. The league is competitive and there are no big and small teams,” she said.

She added that winning the match wasn’t revenge for the 5-1 loss to Sundowns in May.

“I wouldn’t say it’s revenge but today was our game,” she said.

TUT Ladies coach Sizwe Sibiya said it was a difficult game but his girls put on a brilliant performance.

“I need to prepare my players and got them to relax. That’s why I said to you earlier this week that we are just going to relax because giants hardly change the way they play,” he said.

He praised his players for remaining active and on alert in the first half when Sundowns dominated possession.

TUT goalkeeper Dikgopa Mosima went home with the man of the match award after stopping every shot fired her way.

She said she managed to put in a great performance against Sundowns because she watched her previous match against Sundowns and tried to correct her mistakes in this game.

“I am proud of the team for stopping Sundowns from beating us twice. We managed to end an unbeaten streak that started in May at our expense. I’m proud of the team,” she said.

The win puts TUT in the third spot in the league level on 45 points with JVW but the latter has two games in hand.
