Primary learners enjoy visit from West SAPS
Motivational speaker Kgasago says initiatives such as these do wonders for the mental well-being of learners, which is, as she believes, as important as their academic well-being.
The Pretoria West SAPS and other stakeholders recently visited the Rearabilwe Community Development Project as part of their series of school outreach initiatives.
The police were accompanied by social workers from the Tshwane social development department, Ga-Rankuwa Rearabilwe child and youth care centre, and local entrepreneur and motivational speaker Lebogang Kgasago.
The purpose of the outreach, according to West SAPS communication officer Constable Sibongile Vuma, was to generate awareness around the issues affecting primary school learners.

“As the school holidays are nearing, we felt it fit to address issues the younger kids are facing in their schools and around their areas. These can include bullying, substance abuse and other crimes that present challenges to these learners,” said Vuma.
Pamphlets with information relating to what was discussed were given to the teachers, which were later handed out to the learners, including whistles. The learners were taught to blow their whistles to alert those nearby that they are in danger.
Learners were encouraged to use the whistle whenever they felt unsafe or if an emergency occurred playing around.
Motivational speaker Kgasago said initiatives such as these did wonders for the mental well-being of learners.

“Providing the learners with an academic foundation is important, but so is developing their self-confidence, leadership qualities, and their responsibilities toward the community and their families,” said Kgasago
Kgasago founded Leonora Holiday Travel, a subsidiary of her company Leonowarona Holdings, to boost local tourism and combat high unemployment among the youth and women. It boasts government departments and big and small businesses as its clients and has also collaborated with the West SAPS on school outreaches previously.
Some of the issues the 28-year-old entrepreneur feels mostly affect learners include drug/substance abuse, violence, stress, time management, politics and materialism.
“When you conquer yourself first, the whole universe is yours. Believe in yourself and have a strong sense of discipline and you will achieve all your dreams and goals,” she said.
