Metro wraps up youth expo in Atteridgeville
The expo was meant to create awareness among young people of the variety of healthcare services the metro offers in their areas.
Atteridgeville community hall played host to the final weekend of the youth and adolescent health expo last week.
The expo took place on Friday, September 30.
The expo was meant to create awareness among young people of the variety of healthcare services the metro offers in their areas.
Tshwane health MMC, councillor Rina Marx said the past weekend marked the end of a nearly month-long effort by her department to bring valuable information to the youth.
“The department is very satisfied with the outcome of the expo and with the number of youths reached,” said Marx.
Marx previously stated that South Africans under 19 years of age make up 22.12 million of the 60.6 million citizens, hence the significance of such initiatives.
In addition to the health screening, attendees also had the opportunity to discuss other youth-related topics and issues to find ways to better tackle the ills facing their demographic.
Some of the topics tackled and services provided during the expo included HIV/Aids awareness, reproductive health, TB screening, breast cancer examinations, childhood cancer awareness as well as substance and drug abuse.
Attendees also had access to specialists in different medical fields such as oral, occupational therapy and podiatry.
“The City will continue to champion access to primary healthcare to ensure that residents live a healthy life,” continued Marx.
Lessons on how to properly construct a curriculum vitae (CV) were provided as well as additional information regarding pet care and where one could go to sterilise their pet in their area.
Marx thanked all the various stakeholders and partners that played a role in the expo and invited other businesses/individuals interested in partnering with the health department to get in touch.
“Our doors are open to partner with stakeholders in the health sector to ensure that better healthcare can be discharged to all people across our communities,” conclude Marx.
