Gauteng premier wishes matric class well with final exams

“I don’t foresee any problems with load-shedding. Last week, the learners were writing subjects that needed electricity and we are done with those subjects.”

“This final examination will determine your future,” the Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi told the matric class of 2022.

Lesufi joined basic education minister Angie Motshekga and Gauteng education MEC Malome Chiloane when they visited Nellmapius secondary school to monitor the start of the final national senior certificate (NCS) examination in Tshwane on Monday.

“The learners have come a long way, persevering throughout the years from grades 1 to 12 and they cannot give up now,” said Lesufi.

The learners started their final examination with a two-hour-long Paper 1 – English additional language.

He said the examination learners are now writing will open many doors for them in terms of applying for universities, bursaries and looking for jobs.

“You have worked hard throughout the year; therefore, it’s time to put Gauteng in the limelight by giving us good matric results.”

He commended the education minister and the MEC for the hard work they have done in preparing the learners for the final NSC exam

Motshekga encouraged the learners to continue reading and working throughout the examinations.

“Load-shedding disrupted our lives, but we work around it. We cook earlier to avoid load-shedding.

“Same thing with the learning,” she said.

“I don’t foresee any problems with load-shedding. Last week, the learners were writing subjects that needed electricity and we are done with those subjects,” said Motshekga.

She added that learners write their final examinations during the day.

“When it comes to studying, learners should sacrifice. When the lights are gone for two hours, they should rest and when the lights come back they should continue studying.”

The learners were nervous yet excited at the prospects of the exams.

“I am ready to take on the world. The only way to do that is to start by producing good results in this exam.”

Newly-appointed Gauteng education MEC Malome Chiloane said the department was ready for the final examinations.

Chiloane wished the matric class of 2022 the best of luck.
