NGO celebrates 20 years of good work in Olievenhoutbosch
King's Hope expanded its work to offer more services, including temporary shelter for victims of GBV, education about and prevention of HIV/Aids and TB, as well as counselling.
King’s Hope NGO celebrated 20 years of selfless service to the needy and destitute in Olievenhoutbosch at the weekend.
Board member John Stanbury told Rekord it was a privilege for the NGO to have survived all these years, and still continue to do well by its community.
Stanbury said the organisation will continue to grow in leaps from now onwards.
“King’s Hope provides support to the community of Olievenhoutbosch and has done this for 20 years. I hope that King’s Hope will continue and grow,” he said.
Tshwane mayor Randall Williams said his metro would provide the organisation with much-needed social support programmes.
“We accept that we cannot do it alone. We need organisations such as the NGO to work with us to provide much-needed support to vulnerable persons in the city.
“On behalf of the City of Tshwane, I would like to express our gratitude to the management and all the volunteers at the NGO for the selfless work they are doing,” Williams added.
He said that the metro was open to partnerships with businesses and NGOs that support vulnerable groups within their community.
The NGO was established as a faith-based community service organisation in 2002. Initially, it provided food to the needy and home-based care to those living with HIV/Aids.
Informed by the changing needs of the communities, the NGO expanded its work to offer more services, including temporary shelter for victims of gender-based violence, education about and prevention of HIV/Aids and TB, as well as counselling.
In 2021, the NGO received the Global Fund For Jesus (GFFJ) award.
“We are humbled for our work being recognised at such a magnificent event. Thank you to the board of directors who work tirelessly behind the scenes and the management and team that do the hard work on the ground. You deserve this,” the NGO said.
