Man sentenced to 15 years for attempted murder, house robbery

Shaun Mongezi Kgosana (32) from Mamelodi was arrested in November 2022 after stabbing his victim several times with a sharp object during a house robbery.

A Mamelodi man has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by the Pretoria regional court on charges of attempted murder and house robbery.

Shaun Mongezi Kgosana (32), who was arrested in 2022, was found guilty of both charges.

Police spokesperson Constable Lethabo Mashiloane said Kgosana was arrested for attempted murder and house robbery in November 2022.

He said police management welcomes the hefty sentence.

“On the day of the robbery at 15:55, Kgosana stabbed a person in the house several times with a sharp object in Mahube-valley ext. 1,” said Mashiloane.

Kgosana managed to flee the scene but he was chased and caught the same day and handed over to the police.

“The members of crime prevention attended the crime scene and all necessary role players were summoned to the scene,” said Mashiloane.

Detective Seargent Moshabi Sodi was assigned to investigate the docket and collected necessary evidence.

Mamelodi East station commander Brigadier Terence Naidoo believed this sentence will send a strong message to other people who think of committing similar offences.

He commended the investigating officer for working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served.

Police urged the community to continue blowing the whistle on any criminal activity that is threatening the safety of our community.

The public can report any suspicious-looking person to the police at 08600 10 111.
