Mams public asked to use police suggestion boxes

It can also be used to report crime-related matters, wanted suspects, crime tip-offs and corrupt officials.

Mamelodi police invited members of the community to use the blue suggestion box at the entrance of the client service centre.

“The purpose of the suggestion box is to monitor the client satisfaction survey and for people who visit the police station to lodge complaints and compliments,” said police spokesperson Sergeant Daphney Maila.

It can also be used to report crime-related matters, wanted suspects, crime tip-offs and corrupt officials.

“The box will help us in our duties by providing information on criminal activities within the community and encourage us to improve the quality of our services to the public,” said Maila.

She said, for example, a person recently applauded the crime prevention team for recovering a stolen BMW 7.

Maila added information about suspected criminal undertakings could lead to arrests and prevention.

Station commander Brigadier Charles Matjie said the police working together with the public can do more in fighting crime.

He further said the police could not do it alone. If they were to root out crime, they needed the public’s input.

“Tips can be made anonymously. Feedback will be in no later than two weeks.”

Matjie asked the community not to misuse the suggestion box.

He said a tipster, who wished to remain anonymous, could drop a note without using their name. Anyone who wanted to be contacted could also leave their details as well.

She said the public can report any suspicious persons to the police on 08600 10111.
