80 illegal foreign nationals arrested during police operation

More than 80 of the 222 suspects that were arrested during the weekend operation, were undocumented immigrants for their illegal stay in the country.

More than 80 undocumented immigrants were arrested in the Pretoria CBD this weekend for their illegal stay in the country.

The central police operation arrested over 222 people in an effort to clamp down on criminality.

“A vast majority of the suspects were caught in Sunnyside, east of Pretoria. Police operations were boosted by the provincial O kae Molao, which was executed from Saturday evening to the early hours of Sunday morning,” said police spokesperson, Captain Daniel Mavimbela.

The effort was supported by different stations within the SAPS sub-district of Tshwane central.

The law-enforcement agencies involved in the effort also found success in Brooklyn and Silverton where 76 suspects collectively were arrested for various offences including domestic violence, fraud, and malicious damage to property.

A further two suspects were arrested for illegal possession of a firearm when police seized an unlicensed gun from the pair.

“Police in Sinoville made inroads towards the reduction of motor vehicle-related crimes when suspects were caught for theft of a motor vehicle and possession of car-breaking implements,” Mavimbela concluded.

Police aim to continue weekend operations in the effort to make Tshwane safer and are calling upon residents to join the fight between reporting illegal activity and avoiding taking part in them.

Residents that wish to report crime to the central police can call 012 353 4233 or the Crime Hotline at 08600 10111.
