Park run loyalists excited to exercise over weekend

“My friends and family know very well not to temper with my Saturday schedule. I enjoy the run, it helps one to distress, stay healthy while doing it. This is also a nice place to have a light decent conversation with fellow runners.”

Scores of park runners looked excited to participate in their weekly Saturday run in Valhalla.

Runner Martin Barac told Rekord that it has been great to be part of the club, adding that it has now become part of his lifestyle.

“Since I started I am on my 250th run, and I am looking forward to much more. I am joined by my family, who are also part of the park run family. My son is now on his 100-mark park run,” Barac said.

The Saturday event was abuzz with excitement as many runners were joined by friends, family and others were even accompanied by their dogs.

Harriet Nemaheni, a regular runner from Valhalla, said she made sure that her schedule was clear every Saturday morning, in order for her to attend her Saturday run.

“My friends and family know very well not to tamper with my Saturday schedule. I enjoy the run, it helps one to distress, stay healthy while doing it. This is also a nice place to have a light decent conversation with fellow runners,” Nemaheni added.

The run catered for different categories of runners, there are those that do 4km, 2km and a kilometre depending on one’s pace and capacity.

Zandri Beukes said she enjoys the run, especially under cloudy conditions, as it was difficult to run on sunny days.

“The race was fantastic, I enjoyed it. I am on my 100th run, and I am hoping to get to the 250 mark. It’s always nice to start your Saturday morning with exercise, from there go catch up with your mates feeling healthy and fresh,” said Beukes.
