Tshwane police bust 687 in weekend ops

Tshwane police arrested 687 suspects for various offences during crime prevention operations over the weekend.
The operation focused on high visibility patrols, according to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan Van Dyk.
The arrests included five for murder, one for attempted murder, three for rape and 29 for gender-based violence.
“Forty-two premises were searched in the Sunnyside and Pretoria Central policing areas which included six taverns and a restaurant, of which the restaurant was closed because it was not compliant with the liquor act.
“Arrests on Saturday night included 106 undocumented immigrants, 10 persons for drinking in public and six suspects were arrested. In addition, 21 persons were fined by officers from the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority for non-compliance towards the PSIRA act”.
Furthermore, 12 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, adding that 15 Aarto infringement notices were also issued.
The total value of the issued fines was R11 500. In total, 1 337 persons and 537 were searched during the operation.
Van Dyk said the arrests come after Major-General Azwinndini Nengovhela decided to deploy a team of dedicated policemen and women in and around the city.
