GEPF hosts service delivery day in Atteridgeville

The largest pension fund in Africa currently has more than 1.2 million active members.

The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) hosted an event for its pensioners recently at Tshwane South TVET College, Atteridgeville Campus.

Dubbed GEPF Day, the initiative forms part of a nationwide service delivery venture which seeks to educate members, and share information about upcoming GEPF campaigns.

The GEPF Day took place on February 18, from 08:00 until 16:00, in a released statement, GEPF had the following to say, “The primary purpose of the event was to share information about the Fund’s benefits, render services on the spot and resolve pension related queries that the Fund members may have had when they came to the GEPF DAY.”

The largest pension fund in Africa currently has more than 1.2 million active members, 490 000 pensioners and beneficiaries, and assets worth more than R2.3 trillion since being founded in May 1996.

“The GEPF is committed to continuing bringing its services closer to its members, pensioners and beneficiaries through the roadshow and events like the one it hosted in Atteridgeville in the City of Tshwane,” GEPF continued.

GEPF says that it’s currently challenging with the rising number of GEPF Unclaimed Benefits cases and initiatives such as these help reduce these cases.

The service delivery day also served as a warning to pensioners to be wary of fraudulent “financial advisors” that look to dupped unsuspecting beneficiaries.

“Self-proclaimed ‘brokers’ falsely claim to be representatives of the GEPF and offer to speed up claims processes while demanding a service fee whereas the Fund’s services are by law offered for free,” GEPF cautioned.

GEPF consults with various public sector funds and says it’s aimed at managing and administering pensions and other benefits for government employees in South Africa
